Ashley & Adam’s Winter Wedding at Briscoe Manor Barn

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met on Tinder! It was sheer luck that Ashley was driving home from San Antonio on a weekend trip with her mom when she swiped right on Adam while passing through Katy, TX. After talking for a couple of weeks, we went on our first date – Grimaldi’s pizza and yard games at World of Beer, Labor Day 2016.

HOW DID YOUR PROPOSAL HAPPEN?

I was very suspicious of Adam for the few weeks leading up to the proposal, but I didn’t know when or if it was actually happening. We had briefly talked about “what if” we got engaged but not a ton of details, and I was praying he wouldn’t do a public proposal (those organized song and dance proposals are my nightmare!) But on the 6th anniversary of when we met, Adam planned a nice pizza dinner in our backyard. We were trying out our new pizza oven and messed up the first crust. We rushed to make the new pizza and get some photos of one of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen. While staring at the sunset, Adam asks me to turn around and is down on one knee. It was the perfect ring and the perfect setting for a proposal – of course I said yes!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING

We both agreed that what we wanted most out of our wedding was good food and good fun. So we tried a lot of food and desserts, and we chose vendors that we enjoyed talking to and knew would contribute to a fun event. We set our date in February, hoping the milder weather would allow us to enjoy an outdoor ceremony and reception in Texas, and it was such an amazing day! We picked a venue that was beautiful on its own, and added some mauve and maroon florals to add to the romantic vibe. And of course Ashley was able to capture not only how beautiful everything was, but also how much fun we had with our guests.

ADVICE FOR THE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLE

Ask questions! Ask people who have planned a wedding, attended a wedding, your vendors, and your venue for advice. Make sure to share your expectations and then ask your vendors to describe how they think the day will go, so you can know you’re on the same page. Ask your partner about their priorities for the wedding and include each other when making important decisions, especially ones related to their own priorities and interests. You’ll both want to feel like you had your own mark on such an important day!
